The Sustainability Report was prepared following the standards of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and the external verification of the Honduran Foundation for Corporate Social Responsibility (FUNDAHRSE), which describes relevant information on the results obtained over a period of eleven years regarding investments and modernization of the international air terminals in Honduras.
“The presentation of this Sustainability Report establishes as part of the company’s objectives the commitment to establish a continuous improvement process clearly registered in the Corporate Social Responsibility. This involves informing the community in general of the work we have done in a transparent manner, the last years and the governance route that we carry out, “said the General Manager of Airports of Honduras, Edgardo Maradiaga.
He added that the Report is aligned with the ISO 26000 on Social Responsibility and with the Sustainable Development goals of the United Nations.
As of the year 2000, Interairports S.A obtains the concession of the four international airports Toncontín in Tegucigalpa, Ramón Villeda Morales in San Pedro Sula, Golosón in Ceiba and Juan Manuel Gálvez in Roatán. In 2006 it was acquired by Honduran investors focused on providing high quality services at competitive prices, complying with the high safety and quality standards of the industry.
The management of the four international airports over the last decade has required significant investments in construction, rehabilitation and maintenance of infrastructure, accompanied by the recruitment and training of qualified personnel to meet the natural growth of services and passengers that the aeronautical industry has experienced in these years.
Aeropuertos de Honduras has paid to the State by way of a concession canon from the year 2000 to date almost 3 billion Lempiras, a period during which the private administration of international airports is one of the most significant economic contributions for the Treasury of the State of Honduras.
In addition, Aeropuertos de Honduras has invested almost 1,500 million Lempiras in infrastructure and modernization of the 4 air terminals in the country during the concession.
Aeropuertos de Honduras received from the Colombian Institute of Technical Standards and Certification (ICONTEC), the certificate with the new ISO 9001: 2015 standard, which endorses the quality management system used in all airport activities.
During these 11 years, Aeropuertos de Honduras has increased traffic, tripling the number of airlines and increasing the inflow of domestic and foreign passengers to more than 2.1 million passengers.
The concessionaire supports the Scholarships tutoring program with the delivery of 338 scholarships annually in 29 education centers in Tegucigalpa, San Pedro Sula, Ceiba and Roatán. We also develop other projects such as “Making Flying Smiles”, educational tours and volunteering; which adds more than 19.4 million Lempiras in social investment.
The Sustainability Report of Aeropuertos de Honduras shows the sum of the work of a multiplicity of companies and public entities, which includes airlines, maintenance, food, commercial activities and, of course, State agencies.
