Tegucigalpa, September 28. After 20 years of the concession  of the  country’s four international airports, Aeropuertos de Honduras  transfers the infrastructure to the Secretariat of Infrastructure and Public Services (INSEP).

The Concessionaire Aerouertos de Honduras during these 20 years of  airport concession, invested in its    management about 1,650 million Lempiras, of which L727.5 million were in additional investments   added to  the contractually required.

The Concessionaire exceeded its goals during the years of its administration, fully complying with the clauses established in the contract approved by the National Congress, in terms of works, maintenance and remodeling among others, in addition to the additional works that were carried out at each of the airports..

Each of the works carried out both within the contract and the additional works were seen and approved by  the Superintendency of Concessions.

Approved in the year 2000, the concession of the country’s four air terminals has become a successful model by ensuring: increased investments in the sector, increased airline operations, certification of Villeda Morales and Juan Manuel Gálvez airports in accordance with aeronautical regulations and current environmental regulations, certified in quality under ISO 9001:2015,  doubling passenger transit and above all increasing tax revenues.

The company Aeropuertos de Honduras, concessionaire of the service since the year the year 2003, reports the payment of more than 3,814 million Lempiras as a levy established in the contract, in addition to the payment of sales taxes, rent, municipal taxes and security fee. The total investments between payment of the levy and the payment of taxes amount to 6,120 million Lempiras.

“It has been very satisfying, it has been a good experience to support tourists passing through these airports. We are always supported by Aeropuertos de Honduras and are grateful to allow ourselves to do our work within the facility,” said Carlos Martínez, Toncontín’s service provider.

When I came here in the year  1989 the facilities were  small, there was only one entrance to the terminal now with the improvements saw the transformation, you can see that there is a transformation in these 20 years, Martinez added.

“Our experience has been more than accommodating to be here so many years working,  working here at the airport and attending many passengers in and out of the country we are proud to be here and belong to Aeroportertos de Honduras who have always taken us into account,” said Erick Varela, a representative of the trunks.

During the administration of  Aeropuertos de Honduras, the number of airlines doubled as there were nine airlines in the year 2000 and a total of 18 are registered in the year 2020.

Honduras has low-cost airlines such as Spirit of U.S. origin operating scheduled flights across the United States.

“We are very grateful to Honduras because it has been one of the lines favorite areas of the town as they prefer us to travel from the United States to the country, and vice versa, Spirit  continues to invest to continue flying to more destinations,” said Mauricio Acosta representative of the airline in the country.

The transition of airports will allow new operators of international airports to have 100% Honduran staff and properly trained, something we have achieved as Concessionaire of the four terminal areas,” Maradiaga reported.
