AEROPUERTOS DE HONDURAS transformed, fulfilled and exceeded the investments of the concession contract

  • From the year 2000 to the year 2020 it has moved more than3,814  million Lempiras to the government

Tegucigalpa September. Aeropuertos de  Honduras presents in the report of its management as concessionaire  of the four international airports of the country the investments made during its management amounting to 1,650  million Lempiras,  of which 727.5 million Lempiras are outside the contractual clauses.

The Concessionaire exceeded its goals during the years of its administration by fully complying with the clauses established in the contract approved by the National Congress, in terms of works, maintenance and remodeling among others, in addition to the additional works that were carried out at each of the airports as

Each of the works carried out both within the contract and the additional works was found by the Superintendence of Concesiones.

Approved in the year 2000, the concession of the country’s four air terminals has become a successful model in securing: increased investments in the sector, increased airline operations, doubling passenger passage and above all increasing tax revenues.

The company Aeropuertos de Honduras, concessionaire of the service since the year 2003, reports the payment of more than 3,814 million Lempiras as a levy  product of what was   established in the contract, in addition to the payment of sales tax, rent, main taxes and security fees. The total investments between payment of the levy and the payment of taxes amount to 6,120 million Lempiras.

Edgardo Maradiaga, Honduran Airport Manager, said that “the payment of the

concession fee is the concessionaire’s responsibility to the State of Honduras, and its compliance in a timely way contributes, from private initiative to Honduras development.”

It further stated that the Concession was a model of success for the State, as the terminal areas were transformed, the contract was fully fulfilled and the goals set were exceeded.

During the administration of Aeropuertos de Honduras, the number of airlines has doubled as there were nine airlines in the year  2000 and a total of 18 are recorded in 2020.

In addition, the number of travellers doubled. Between the year  2000 and the year  2003, the flow of travellers was one to 1.1 million,, while in the last two years between 2.2 and 2.4 million people transited through the country’s different air terminals.

For Michael Wehmeyer,representative of theHonduran Airline Association, said that “in termsof operations having certifiedairports allow us to have better costs, directly influences the operating insurance that we have asairlines, obviously this creates more confidence to parent companies and so they can through demand detection being able to have more weekly operations demandsand get greater connectivity with   Honduras”.

International Recognitions

During the concession Hon duras Airportshas received several internationalfoundationsin morecustomer service, from renowned institutions such as Airport ServiceQuality (ASQ) and the International Council of Aeropuertos (ACI).

In2018 where international airport council (ACI), ramón Villeda Morales airport was recognized as “Best Airport in Latin America and the Caribbean” for the excellent scores obtainedin the ASQ surveys.

Biosecurity Measures

Airports in Honduras conducted a state-approved biosecurity protocol manual setting out the procedures used in each of the areas of the four international airports in order to reduce, minimize or eliminate risk factors for contagion.

Measures taken at the time of entry into the terminals include temperature intake, disinfection of hands and feet, footprints so that passengers have distance and sterilization in all areas among other actions.

Investments in biosecurity issues have invested some 5 million lempiras, we provide hygiene assistance to our passengers, we strongly urge everyone to follow instructions and best practices to prevent the spread of germs.
