Aeropuertos de Honduras transformed the country’s four international airports

Tegucigalpa, September 22nd. During the Concession, Aeropuertos de  Honduras achieved the transformation of the country’s four international airports, Toncontín in Tegucigalpa, Juan Manuel Gálvez in Roatán, Ramon Villeda in San Pedro Sula and Golosón in  Ceiba, investing in infrastructure about 1,650 million Lempiras, converting them in modern and efficient.

During the years that the Concessionaire administered the four terminals of the country, the advances are significant in infrastructure, in the case of the Toncontín International Airport in  Airport in  Tegucigalpa  the new control tower was built, the terminal building was expanded, work was done on  the remodeling of the building, two boarding bridges were installed, electric grandstands and elevators were installed,  flight and baggage Information System was installed, the parking area was built, the ramp was expanded to 8,000 m², remodeling of bathrooms and construction of ramps for people with disabilities among other works.

In the case of the Ramon Villeda Morales airport in San Pedro Sula, the number of counters and office areas of the airlines were expanded, the baggage area was extended, the supply of X-rays, sound systems and fire alarms, replacement of air conditioners, the hundred-ton compressor in the refrigeration unit was replaced, the labels were made according to the international standards in force (applied at the four airports). The runway, taxiways and platforms were sealed, in addition the lateral strips of the runway and taxiway were marked in accordance with ICAO requirements; The control tower was remodeled, a wastewater treatment system was built and sedimentation in drainage channels was removed, migration areas, lobby customs and bathrooms were remodeled, among other works.

Mean while at the Juan Manuel Gálvez  in Roatán international airport, the counters and airline area, boarding hall, customs, the arrival and departure sidewalks of the terminal were expanded, expansion of the baggage handling area on departure flights, equipment was supplied X-ray systems, counters and scales, instruments were supplied for the control tower, acquisition of units for the fire department, the visibility conditions from the control tower to the threshold were improved, automatic ticket office equipment was installed, They remodeled several areas, such as the front, lobby, vehicle parking, among others.

At Golosón In La Ceiba International Airport, the terminal building was expanded and remodeled, ramps were built for people with disabilities, the departure hall was expanded, in addition to the provision of more space for the passenger queue, counters and offices of airlines, as well as the international flights area, the construction of the domestic flights area was carried out, the baggage claim area for international flights was expanded, restrooms remodeling, the adequate lighting and ventilation systems were supplied in the areas public facilities, flight information systems were installed, vehicle parking was built, among others.

By converting them into modern airports, it allowed the increasing demand of passengers in the last 20 years, which saw the increase of 1.1. million travelers to 2.2 million doubling the number of airlines from 9 to 18 between national and international.

Airport operations and the growth of the influence of passengers allowed more than 4 thousand direct and indirect jobs to be generated, promoting the development of the country.

Background

In the year 2000, Honduras began the path of modernizing its air terminals, through the concession of the four international airports, to a private company with the capacity to implement investments in its airport infrastructure, which responds to the growth and needs of the country.
