Within the framework of the safety management system (SMS), managed by Interairports, recently gathered with the representatives of the airlines, control tower, aeronautical authority and concessionaire of the aerodrome, for the formation of the Operational Safety Group on the Runway, commonly known in the Aeronautical field as RST (Runway Safety Team), at the Ramón Villeda Morales International Airport.
The Resolution A37-6 of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) urges states to improve runway safety. ICAO promotes and supports the establishment of multidisciplinary runway safety teams at aerodromes, backed by the ICAO Runway Safety Program (RSP), which promotes the establishment of RSTs at the airports as effective means to reduce accidents and serious incidents on the runways. The requirement for airports to establish RSTs is one of the main resources obtained from the ICAO Global Runway Symposium that was held in Montreal, Canada in May 2011.
